Sustainability
What is sustainable? A sustainable system cares for and feeds itself, and lives within its means. For our purposes, sustainability applies both to your organization and your volunteer program.
In our universe, there are only a few resources which are not subject to the law of decay. One of these is love. Love given multiplies. How can you bring love into your volunteer program in a way that contributes to its sustainability, and to the sustainability of your organization?
Your volunteer program cares for and feeds itself primarily by being a whole system in and of itself. It does the work of recruiting, training, and retaining itself.
And your volunteer program lives within its means. That is, whatever resources it needs, it generates.
Capacity
What is capacity? An organization with capacity has the ability to access sufficient resources for the task at hand.
That means enough. It means attracting exactly what is necessary, in exactly the form necessary, at exactly the right moment.
This level of manifestation can be the result of a powerful volunteer organization. Donors are volunteers; volunteers are your largest donors.

So often we see organizations struggling with big missions and little budgets – lots of clients in need and not much staff to address that need. It does not have to be like this.
So often we see volunteers struggling to find outlets for expressing their passion and desire to make a difference – to connect with people and have fun. It does not have to be like this.
What does your organization do to build capacity to serve your clients? Do you love your volunteers?
